...what it is

Families are central to our lives. Our families mark where we have been and tell us something of who we are.

Yet in these busy technological times, we seldom have a place for one of the most central acts of family life:

Telling Stories.

How will we hear the stories that make us who we are?
How will our children hear them?

Questions like these led me to Personal History.

As a personal historian, I will work with you now to record your stories, or those of a family member. I will ask the questions that generate stories, then listen, record and eventually bind your family history into a lovely, archival volume for all to read, a book that may be one of your most cherished gifts, a precious touchstone for generations.

"When a parent dies, it's the end. I always wanted to chronicle the family history with my mother. She was always interested.... But I wasn't forceful, and I didn't make it happen. That's one regret I have. I didn't get as much of the family history as I could have for the kids."
—Robert De Niro, Esquire Magazine, January, 2003
